Nick Martinez
EXHIBIT CURATOR
Nick Martinez serves as one of the curators of video games for the Harlem Gallery of Science, where he plays a leading role in shaping and expanding the Gallery's innovative exhibitions. Since joining the project in 2022, he has been instrumental in the development of The Great Connector exhibition. His work has included overseeing its installation at the Harlem School of the Arts in 2024 and Long Island Museum in 2026. As part of his curatorial work, he created a community map which allows visitors to look up resources in their community related to video games and other game-based experiences; he has developed a version for New York City and one for Long Island.
With a background in anthropology and nonprofit management, Martinez brings over 15 years of experience working in museums and cultural institutions. Before joining the Harlem Gallery of Science, Martinez spent years teaching STEM-related content in museum settings, including at the American Museum of Natural History.
A native New Yorker, Martinez grew up in Brooklyn, making his work with the Harlem Gallery of Science particularly meaningful. He is especially interested in helping visitors recognize the skills they already use in their everyday lives and see how those skills can translate into future opportunities in fields like STEM and digital media.
