OUR VISION

Who Are We? Science and Arts Engagement New York (SAENY), a nonprofit 501©3 corporation, partnered with The City College of New York (CCNY), to create the Harlem Gallery of Science (HGS). HGS has developed programs to improve essential skills such as critical thinking, complex problem solving, teamwork, and communication, to propel students into a world of opportunities. Government agencies, other nonprofits, and educational institutions actively collaborate with HGS to facilitate this growth. HGS and collaborating organizations believe in investing in our youth and giving them the tools to succeed in the workforce.

Our Goal: To engage youth to pursue higher education and career pathways in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) fields, as well as aid in the development of social-emotional skills and build self confidence.

Pathways to Success: The Harlem Gallery of Science (HGS), addresses income inequality by creating new and innovative approaches to prepare youth from marginalized communities for careers in high-paying jobs in the STEAM sectors of NYC. In NYC’s STEAM sectors, workers are often imported from out of state, explaining the lack of an adequate skilled workforce in NYC. Better jobs, higher income, and greater investment in underserved local communities bootstraps an economic resurgence that provides these communities and their residents greater social mobility and increases their stake in a vibrant and democratic society.

The overall aim of HGS is to instill genuine interest within these students by engaging them in programs that draw upon culturally relevant themes such as sports, music, and gaming, while providing them with the means to access the world of higher academia. Current middle school students will be joining the workforce in 10 years; therefore, it is crucial to establish and advocate for the minds of the future while they are still developing. Continuing to provide educational resources and social-emotional support for young people in these communities will enable them to reach the collegiate level and build careers in STEAM, ultimately creating academic, scientific, and tech sectors that reflect the diversity of New York!
