Dr. Tony Liss is currently the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs of The City College of New York. He joined the City College faculty in 2013 as the Martin and Michele Cohen Dean of Science and served in this capacity until his appointment as Provost. Dr. Liss served as a professor of physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1988 until 2013.

Dr. Liss’ research in high-energy physics has taken place at the world’s highest-energy accelerators, including the Large Hadron Collider at CERN and the Collider Detector at Fermilab. He has led groundbreaking research that resulted in the discovery of new fundamental particles, among them the top quark, and is a member of the ATLAS Collaboration that co-discovered the Higgs boson in 2012.
